Second Wind Software

Thoughtful apps from a lifetime of software design.

Second Wind Software is my retirement studio — a place to experiment, explore, and build whatever software catches my interest. After years spent focusing on traditional business software development, I can now enjoy working on smaller, craft-driven projects, from educational games to experimental tools. Most apps begin on iOS, with the possibility of expanding to Android or other platforms if the project calls for it.

Current Projects

MathCrash

A fast-paced math practice game for elementary-age students.

MathCrash is a racing-themed math practice game built for iOS. Kids solve basic arithmetic problems while two racecars speed toward a crash point — answer correctly to keep racing, or risk a spectacular “crash” when time runs out.

  • Focuses on addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Adjustable difficulty, with grade-level presets and custom settings.
  • Short, focused rounds designed to fit into real-world family schedules.

MathCrash is designed as a “just one more round” experience: quick, repeatable, and satisfying. A new twist on the flashcards of old.

Platform & Technology

Most projects at Second Wind Software begin their life on Apple platforms, especially iOS and iPadOS. That’s where I’m most fluent and where testing is easiest. Depending on interest and fit, I may explore bringing some apps to Android or other platforms over time.

Under the hood, I lean toward modern Swift and SwiftUI, small focused architectures, and a preference for clarity over cleverness. When things are working well, the code feels as friendly and approachable as the app itself.
